Zhenya Gershman is a painter, art historian, and educator. Born in Eastern Europe, Zhenya is based between her two studios in Los Angeles and New York City. She is known for her dramatic monumental portraits of iconic public and private figures. Gershman's portraits are featured in public and private collections including Douglas Simon, Richard Weisman, and Arte Al Limite Museum in Santiago, Chile.
Gershman was selected to create iconic portraits of Bruce Springsteen and Bob Dylan for the MusiCares GRAMMY Foundation. She is a recipient of numerous awards including the ALEX Award in Visual Arts, presented nationally to honored scholars and artists, and was featured by Entertainment Tonight, Extra Television, and The New York Post.
Gershman has taught both privately and publicly for two decades, including at The J. Paul Getty Museum, bringing her passion and unique understanding of art to hundreds of people. She was named an ambassador to Royal Talens worldwide and Blick Art Materials and is the founder of Zhenya’s Art Academy where she helps students of various ages take their art to the next level.
In 2022, Gershman launched the art movement Brushes Over Bullets after her portrait, “First Face of War”, was sold for $100,000 at Heritage Auctions to benefit Ukraine.
